Omiria- Homer Festival

Homer festival is the greatest cultural event on the island and takes place every summer in honour of the great epic poet Homer, whose tomb is the pride of Ios. In the line Homer festival has been presented numerous concerts and theatrical performances mainly at open air theatre of Odyseas Elytis. Moreover the festival offers chance for artistic expression to the island’s youngsters through athletic or cultural proceedings that are being presented during May every year, performed by students of all ages. Important aspect for the festival has been its worldwide recognition due to the fact that, since 1998, Homer Festival is being held under the auspices of UNESCO, thanks to its role in conservation of Greek national and cultural identity.

Religious Fests

The religious fests taking place in Ios with folklore live music performances and traditional customs as well as local tastes are:
